Can you believe this beautiful volume is a YA book? It looks even better in real life.
My friend Elin, who interned at the YA department of a Famous Australian Publisher, picked up The Poison Throne because the editors couldn’t stop talking about it. When she brought it to class, it became an instant hit. Celine Kiernan’s Moorehawke trilogy is set in Medieval Europe, which led us to fantasize about an alternate reality where young readers went gaga over history instead of vampires. I’m going to break my book-buying ban just to get my own copy.
Designed by Elise Hurst (who talks about the process here — check out the author’s overjoyed reaction in the comments section), this wonderful cover is exclusive to the Australian edition. Outside Australia, the book is packaged like a generic fantasy/YA title — you know, dark and ominous with a single glowing eye on the cover.  Blech.
